Arbor Day Foundation & Tree dedication
The City of Bayard along with the City of Bayard's Tree Board celebrated Arbor Day April 28, 2023 in the Swimming Pool Park. The Mayor's wife Lisa Ouderkirk officiated the ceremony. The Bayard Boy Scout Troop #22 presented the flags and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. A number of elementary students read their poems about trees for this special occasion.
This year the Tree Board selected Mary Temple for all her hard work and dedication to our town. Mary (Truek) Temple was born in Wood River Nebraska, her family later moved to Gibbon where she graduated in 1965. She wed her first husband in 1969 and the couple moved to Bayard in 1970 and purchased the home she still resides today. Mary and Dennis had five (5) children, she is an active member of the Sacred Heart Church. Mary and Dave Temple were married in 2005. Mary grew up with a love and appreciation of gardening and has continued to use that love to create flower beds around the Sacred Heart Church; along with being instrumental in the beautiful upkeep of the flower garden on Main Street.
The City of Bayard and the Bayard Tree Board want to Thank Mary for her dedication to the Park and the beautification of our town. Mary has been honored with a Linden tree that was planted at the Swimming Pool Park.
