IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Nitrate has been measured at a concentration of 61.6 milligrams per liter (mg/L). Systems with nitrate
in drinking water above the unreasonable risk to health (URTH) level of 20 mg/L must provide an
alternate source of safe drinking water to all consumers.

What Does This Mean?
THIS WATER IS NOT TO BE USED FOR CONSUMPTION TO INCLUDE DRINKING, MAKING ICE,
BRUSHING TEETH, WASHING DISHES, AND FOOD PREPARATION. However, if you have specific
health concerns, you may want to consult a physician.

What Should I Do?
Do NOT allow infants, pregnant women, or nursing mothers to drink the water. Infants below the
age of six months who drink water containing nitrate in excess of the MCL could become seriously ill
and, if untreated, may die. Symptoms include short of breath and blue baby syndrome. Symptoms in
infants can develop rapidly. If symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately.

Water, juice, and formula for children under six months of age should not be prepared with tap water.
Alternate water, such as bottled water or water filtered to remove nitrate, should be used for infants until
further testing show results under the MCL.

DO NOT BOIL THE WATER. Boiling, freezing, or letting water stand does not reduce the nitrate level.
Excessive boiling can make the nitrates more concentrated, because nitrates remain behind when the
water evaporates.

What Happened? What Is Being Done?
Nitrate in drinking water can come from natural, industrial, or agricultural sources (including septic
systems and run-off). Levels of nitrate in drinking water can vary throughout the year. The system is
continuing to test and is working with the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy to return
the system to compliance. We will let you know when the amount of nitrate is again below the
regulatory standard.

Expected Resolution Date: ASAP - The City is working NDEE to get this resolved.

Corrective Action: _Be advised there was a sample that was taken 8/27/2026 that came back with a
nitrate indicating 6.1 mg/L/. follow up sampling is occurring and results will be confirmed to make sure
water is at a safe level.
